The night was as shitty as expected. A bunch of JMT (John Muir Trail) and day hikers who celebrated their first miles. So no peace on the crowded camp ground until 10.30pm. Including laughing, screaming, loud discussions, banging against the bear boxes, shining flash lights in the tents and people falling over the guy-lines… 😝 Time that we get out of here!

First stop – Devil’s Postpile. A volcanic rock formation which had formed here.

The rest of the day is easily told. We only have 36 miles left to Yosemite National Park – so two days. Kaylee wasn’t feeling good already yesterday. Probably a cold or virus infection. Nothing bad but nit good for hiking. So easy today. Unfortunately we got caught between two thunderstorm cells – one in front of us and one behind. So we tried to move with and in between them. In our lunch break we were woken up by rain and had to hike in it for the rest of the day…

Since we were lower – summer time in the meadows!

After 16 miles we would have needed to climb over the next pass – Donhue Pass. But it was in the middle of the thunderstorm cell. So all came together and we were forced to camp at 1000 Island Lake – what a pitty…

The new pattern apparently is thunderstorms earlier and then clear again in the evening. We couldn’t care less. In the tent and ready to sleep after a long afternoon nap…

Pass and Yosemite tomorrow.
