We got up at 5.30 to make sure we clear the trail for potential hikers and to do the climb before the heat. Very unnecessary since it again was a very cold night. I only managed to sleep a few hours since I woke up several times beeing really cold…

The climb was nice and easy and after a bit more than 1.5h we were on the top. Great views!

The last few meters to the top!

We had a nice little snack break to enjoy the view. Unfortunately it was too cloudy and too much haze to see the ocean and LA.

Traveling in our new group took us a bit longer than expected so we only arrived in camp at 8.30. Due to a little misunderstanding Sophia and I also waited on the crossing of the highway for an hour. A bit unpleasant even though there was probably only one car every 20 minutes. It was already really cold when we started setting the tents. The night again was freezing. Water filter, contacts, electronics went into the sleeping bag…

The rest of the day was a rather unspectacular up and down. Sophia and I are “alone” again waiting and hoping for the rest of the family to catch up. We entertained ourselves with numerous rounds of “Imaginary Who Am I” (@Rose: thanks for that!!! 😂) and already pitched tents at around 5.30 because it was cold and windy. Even cooking became a challenge…

In the morning we slept in. Highlight of the day was when the sun hit my tent and I started to thaw. I waited until I was warm before I got out. We finished the last bit of highway walking since the trail was closed for about five miles.

I taped the sides of my new tent down with ductape to stop the ice cold wind to
circulate through my tent. Let’s hope it will not be the third shitty night in a row… 😳
