On our second day we left at 7.30h in the morning and to our surprise we had an absolute blue sky and no clouds. Today there is not really much to tell. We basically drove through the southern part of Bolivia close to the border of Chile and stopped at all interesting points – today many lagoones.

The scenery throughout the day was just epic! Very rough and dry land very similar to Patagonia. I love this harsh environment. We also climbed higher up and stayed the entire day at around 4.500m. Amazing how some of the plants and animals survive up here!

Also today the pictures speak the better language.

First lagoon we stopped at was Laguna Cańapa. The colours are just astonishing!

On the way to the next lagoon we passed the active volcano Ollague. Almost 6000m high and constantly smoking.

In the Laguna Hedionda we had the first encounters with flamencos and lamas.

Laguna Chiarcota was spectacular as well. All of the lagoons have different colours due to the different minerals they contain. In contrast with the mainly reddish earth around an amazing game of colour.

Lunch break took place at the Laguna Honda. We were really lucky again. During the day another thunderstorm developed but wherever we went it was always only a nice background setting. We were blessed by blue sky. Lunch was prepared by our great driver Jimi – what an incredible lunch spot.

After a quick stop the Arbol de Piedra we continued to the amazingly great Laguna Colorada. The red colour comes from copper in the water. The famous tree (arbol) is formed by the strong winds which basically sand the bottom parts of the rocks away.

The day closed off with a funny poker about the best rooms and hostels again. Jimi pushed us a bit to get there early again – we knew the reason already. We secured a good spot again and just watched the others driving around coming in, negotiating and leaving again, splitting groups… Time to relax and enjoy a good German quality beer from Otto 🤘🏼
